  4. One More Week to Go!

We’ve had so much fun showcasing some of the amazingly adorable dogs up for adoption from PAW Rescue in celebration of Adopt-a-Dog Month!

    Last up – meet Hoshi!

Hoshi means "star" in Japanese and that’s just what this 1 and ½ year old is! Hoshi appears to have strong maternal or nurturing instincts and loves smaller dogs and even kittens.  When Hoshi first came to PAW, they learned about how Hoshi saved a young kitten at the shelter she was at who had gotten loose and wandered over to where the dogs were. Hoshi scooped up the kitten and brought her out of the dog kennel before any of the other dogs could get to the kitten.

In addition to rescuing kittens, Hoshi loves humans and is playful with other dogs and cats. The temporary foster family she was staying with had nothing but lovely things to say about her and that she was just the perfect houseguest.

If you are interested in meeting Hoshi or any of the other dogs at PAW Rescue, please email pawdogs@yahoo.com.

Also, Lord Monti wanted us to remind you that he likes when our guests bring friends for him to play with! The Jefferson is a very pet friendly hotel, catering to our four legged guests with bowls, treats, walking maps and beds. We hope you and your pet will visit us soon!

  5. National Adopt a Dog Month Isn’t Over Yet!

Still wondering if you should adopt a dog? We know it’s a big responsibility, but look at this face!!

Faun is such a sweetie. When she came to PAW Rescue she was seriously underweight and had been kept out in the backyard for long periods of time. She wasn’t familiar with living indoors and hated being crated, although she’s getting better about it and can be trained. Her ideal home has a fenced yard and she would thrive in place where someone is around a lot of the time.

You want tricks! Faun’s got tricks! When this three year old hound mix meets you, she’ll roll over for a belly rub and sticks her tail in the air. (Kind of reminds us of someone that works here at The Jefferson…we’re looking at you, Lord Monti).

Best part, if you adopt Faun you can bring her to The Jefferson for a play date with Monti, as we are a pet friendly hotel! If you are interested in meeting Faun, or any of the other ridiculously adorable dogs at PAW, email pawdogs@yahoo.com

  6. Adopt a Dog Month

So many amazing things happen in October in Washington, DC and across the nation, but one of our favorites (in addition to the Nationals making it to the playoffs) is National Adopt-a-Dog Month!

In honor of this very important month, we will be highlighting a dog every week from our good friends at PAW Rescue that are in need of a good forever home. PAW Rescue, based in Maryland is the organization where The Jefferson was introduced to our Executive Canine Officer, Monti! Back from a summer in Vermont, Monti is back at work at our pet friendly hotel!

To kick off the month, we’d like to introduce you to Angie.

You could not ask for a nicer companion dog than this shepherd mix. Six years young, Angie is a quiet girl who really does not ask for much other than a relaxed environment she can call home. She adores the companionship of her people as well as the older dogs and cats in her current foster home. On the list of her favorite activities: leash walks, patrolling for squirrels, eating and sleeping. Angie is housebroken and gets a little nervous when around unpredictable young children.

Want to learn more about Angie? Check out this short video or email pawdogs@yahoo.com.

Happy Adopt-a-Dog Month everyone! We hope you enjoy our month of adorable blog posts as much as we love creating them!

  7. Weddings in Washington, DC Just Got a Little More Stylish!

Who doesn’t love a good wedding? Champagne, cake, dancing, laughing and now, at The Jefferson, bow ties!!

We could not be more excited to announce an amazing new partnership in conjunction with Tie The Knot, starting this fall 2014. This stylish organization was founded by Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Justin Mikita to advocate for the civil rights of gay and lesbian Americans throughout the United States & beyond. Together with Tie The Knot, we have created a one-of-a-kind bow tie, the first such custom design collaboration beyond a celebrity designer in the history of their dynamic company. Our tie features our iconic plume used by founding father Thomas Jefferson and is available for purchase at the hotel for $30. A portion of all of the proceeds will go back to Tie Tie Knot.

But wait, there’s more! Couples getting married at The Jefferson now have the option to choose one of our two new wedding packages that include our Jefferson bowties! Created in conjunction with DC’s leading officiant, Travis Crytzer of Tie the Knot DC (no relation, but a coincidentally fitting name), we are pleased to offer a package that includes a ceremony officiated by Travis in our cozy Book Room and one that includes the ceremony and dinner in the hotel’s Private Wine Cellar. The Jefferson is the ideal location for your intimate wedding where you’ll be surrounded by friends and loved ones and we can’t wait to celebrate with you!

  9. It’s Great Gatsby Month At The Jefferson, DC

“So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.” F. Scott Fitzgerald’s words have resonated with readers since the book’s publication in the mid 1920’s.  The Great Gatsby follows the lives of Long Islanders in the summer of 1922. The main character, Nick Carraway, moves to the Island for the summer and reacquaints himself with his cousin Daisy and is introduced to his neighbor, Jay Gatsby, a young and mysterious millionaire. He and Daisy share a past that reveals itself as you turn the pages of this classic.

As part of our ongoing Year of the Author series, we celebrate Fitzgerald’s depiction of the roaring 20’s in Quill at The Jefferson with our F. Scott Fitzgerald cocktail, made with Bourbon, Punt E Mes, Sweet Vermouth, a dash of Peychauds and served in a martini class garnished with Sage and an Orange Peel.

“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” We look forward to celebrating the change in seasons with you at The Jefferson, DC!
