  2. Monti's May Update!

Hello friends, I hope you’ve all had a wonderful week! I know I have – our Director of Finance left some food in his garbage can and I immediately found it and had a delicious snack. I’ve now learned that almost everyone in the office keeps snacks in the garbage!

As you all know, when I’m not looking for snacks, I like to introduce you to some of my friends from PAW Rescue, and today I’d like you to meet Buck! He’s super cheerful and always seems to be smiling. They aren’t quite sure what breed Buck is but he definitely has a little beagle in him (we can spot our own) but also maybe spaniel, cattle dog; basically he’s an everything beagle! (get it, everything beagle, ha!)

He’s pretty new at PAW so everyone is still getting to know him but if you’d like to meet him or any of the other dogs at PAW, please email them at pawdogs@yahoo.com.

Also, I was told to remind you that there’s still time left to vote for my place of employment, The Jefferson in Conde Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice survey. We hope you’ll consider nominating The Jefferson this year!

  3. Things to do in DC this Weekend

One of the best things about spending the weekend in Washington, DC is that there is no shortage of great things to do! Here are some “can’t miss” events this weekend!

    Look Up in the Sky!

Today marks the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, and DC is getting a historic flyover that cannot be missed! One of the most diverse arrays of World War II aircraft ever assembled will fly above the national mall in part of a three-day celebration that will coincide with a ceremony for veterans at the World War II Memorial.

The flyover will honor the heroes who fought in the War and those on the home front who produced the tanks, ships, and aircraft that enabled the United States and its Allies to end the war.  The Smithsonian will host special events and activities in honor of VE Day. The flyover will start at the airspace over the WWII Memorial at approximately 12:10 p.m. and will fly from north to south for approximately 40 minutes. The best place to watch will be from anywhere along the national Mall from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument.

    Around the World in DC

Passport DC is DC’s an annual celebration of international culture presented by Cultural Tourism DC and allows visitors to visit the many embassies and cultural organizations around the city. On May 9th from 10 - 4pm the embassies of the European Union will open their doors to the public.

  5. Is Pippa Your Next Pooch?

And now, a note from our resident beagle, Monti!

Hi everyone & happy weekend! Hope everyone has been having a great spring and got a chance to visit those Cherry Blossoms; they certainly were beautiful and now I’m ready for summer!

You know who else is ready for summer – Pippa! Just look at those ears! My friend Pippa the terrier is just a puppy; the good people at PAW Rescue think she’s about six months old and will probably end up being between 40 and 45 lbs when she’s all finished growing.

Pippa needs an active family who love to take her on long walks or let her run around in a fenced yard. She’s been staying with one of the foster families from PAW and they said she gets along well with other dogs and cats and seems to be housetrained. She’s also super smart.

Summer is a great time to bring a dog into the family since you’ll be around more to help get them acclimated to their new home.

If you are interested in meeting Pippa, or for more information about her or any of the other PAW dogs, contact us at pawdogs@yahoo.com. I give them all my paw of approval!

I hope you’ll all get a chance to come and visit this spring and I look forward to welcoming you to my office, The Jefferson.

  6. Happy Birthday Tommy!

For many hotels in Washington, DC April is their favorite month of the year because it typically is when our beloved Cherry Blossoms make their annual appearance. For us, we love April because it gives us a chance to celebrate the birthday of our namesake, Thomas Jefferson! This year, Jefferson would have been 272 years young and what better way to honor the birthday of our 3rd president than with an elegant tasting menu in Plume!

Our Jefferson inspired menu will be available today through April 18th and features dishes that reflect on the life and times of Jefferson including Stingray Oyster Gratin, Quince Apple Pie and, of course, a chocolate nickel for a sweet ending to your dinner.

And since Jefferson was a lover of wine, Jennifer Knowles, our Wine Director has chosen two different pairings to accompany this celebratory meal.

  9. A Moment to Say Thank You!

Thomas Jefferson once said, "Go on deserving applause, and you will be sure to meet with it: and the way to deserve it is, to be good and to be industrious." On behalf of the team here at The Jefferson, we would like to take a moment to say "thank you" for all of the applause we have received in the past few months.

    Exterior

We were thrilled to learn that we were included in the lists of two very influential travel publications: Travel + Leisure's World's Best for Small City Hotels and Condé Nast Traveler's Readers' Choice. We are so proud of these distinctions because they are voted on by our guests; those who have stayed with us and experienced the level of service we strive to achieve.

This past month, we celebrated Plume maintaining its prestigious five stars from Forbes Travel Guide and remains the only restaurant in Washington, DC with this distinction.

    Plume

We are also grateful for our placements on Trip Advisor's Travelers Choice Top Hotels in the US for 2015 and have been voted the top hotel in DC for 20 consecutive months. Additionally, we have received a top 10 ranking from US News & World Report's Best Hotels in the US, and most recently was listed as the only hotel in Washington, DC on Condé Nast Traveler's Top 5 US Business Hotels. 10. Another PAW Success

And now, a note from the resident beagle at the most pet friendly hotel in Washington, DC; the lord himself, Monti!

Hello friends and happy almost weekend to you all.

I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you to all who participated in our PAW Raffle on Monday. We had some great prizes and lots of winners and we couldn’t have done it without all of you! Did you guys know that over the years PAW Rescue has been responsible for the saving of over 4,000 dogs?

We posted some great pictures of the event on our Facebook page, so check them out if you get a chance and hey, while you’re at it, why not meet Jefferson!

Jefferson was named in honor of my office and the nice people here at the hotel that took me in. He was found running loose in the woods by some hunters who took him to a small rural shelter near where he was found. He was in good shape physically and he clearly loves people - in fact he is unusually affectionate for a hound and will try and climb into your lap. I’m not a big lap person, but I hear it’s a comfortable place to be.

So if you’re interested in meeting Jefferson or any of my friends over at PAW, please email them at pawdogs@yahoo.com and remember to bring your new friend to come and play with me here at The Jefferson – we love dogs here!
