1. Things To Do In DC This Weekend

The presents have all been opened and there’s not a sugar cookie left in the kitchen, now what do you do with your family? The Jefferson, Washington, DC has your answer. Here are some of the events and attractions going on in Washington, DC this weekend.

Last Chance to Visit the National Christmas Tree

Since 1923, the US has held the tradition of lighting a National Christmas Tree in Washington, DC. Open through Jan 1, 2014, on the ellipse near the White House, this is a great night activity for the whole family. Seasonal displays include a Yule log, a large-scale model train and a Christmas manger.

    Choo Choo on Capitol Hill

Located at the foot of the U.S. Capitol through the month of December at the U.S. Botanical Gardens, see the outdoor train garden, enter the Conservatory and enjoy a colorful display of poinsettias and other winter-blooming tropical plants, and the National Mall in miniature, a replica created with natural plant materials.

    Have a Historic Holiday

Learn about the Christmas traditions of George Washington and his family, at Mount Vernon, located just outside of Washington, DC in Virginia. Guests can tour the grounds, meet historic characters and even take a candlelight tour of the estate.

Whatever your plans between now and 2014, we hope you get a chance to check out all that Washington, DC has to offer!

  2. It’s A Holiday Office Throwdown at The Jefferson, Washington, DC

We love the holidays in Washington, DC. We love welcoming our guests to our hotel as they join friends and family in our nation’s capital, we love hosting holiday parties in our cozy book room or private cellar and most of all, we love a good office holiday throwdown!

The offices at The Jefferson need your help in voting for the best holiday door! Each department has been tasked with decorating their office door and we want to know what you think!

ROUND 1- Front Office vs. Reservations

ROUND 2- Housekeeping vs. Food & Beverage

ROUND 3- Kitchen vs. Executive Office

ROUND 4- Human Resources vs. Engineering

(fully committed to winning, Engineering actually painted their door!)

We hope that you all enjoy viewing our doors as much as we enjoyed decorating them with our respective departments!

The happiest of holidays from The Jefferson, Washington, DC!

  3. A Sneak Peek At 2014 at The Jefferson, DC

With Christmas and New Year’s Eve right around the corner, The Jefferson, Washington, DC is already thinking about the new year! We wanted to share with you a sneak peek into what we’re working on for 2014.

We are so excited to announce that 2014 The Year of the Author will premier throughout the hotel in a year-long series that will feature a different author each month. Our author series begins with Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, which coincides with the release of the latest movie version. Pop into Quill for the Mary Shelley cocktail featuring Gin, Ginger Liqueur, Chartreuse, Honey and Pear and topped off with a spooky dry ice and includes a cocktail napkin inscribed with a quote from the first gothic horror novel [“I’m a creature of fine sensations”].

Feel like curling up with your cocktail and reading this tale of creation and revenge? Each month, our featured book will be available to borrow in our Book Room, adjacent to Quill. Jefferson, whose personal library forms the core collection of the Library of Congress across town, would certainly relish in the “novel” idea of consuming an intellectually inspired cocktail.

Check back on our blog and on our Facebook page for more information on the Year of the Author and read up on Frankenstein so you can add to the conversation in our new Jefferson Book Club that will begin in January.

    2014 can’t come soon enough!
