  1. Taking Pet Friendly Hotels to Another Level!

Back in the beginning of the year, we added a new employee to our roster, but he’s definitely like no employee The Jefferson has ever seen.

    Meet Monti.

Our new Executive Canine Officer (ECO) has quickly found his place at The Jefferson after a few short months of coming to us via PAW Rescue, an organization based in Maryland that helps find homes for abandoned dogs and cats.

You can read all about Monti’s story on our website and learn about some of the pet friendly amenities we offer to our four legged guests at The Jefferson.

While Monti may have been super lucky in landing at The Jefferson, he still has lots of friends that need homes so we’ll introduce you to some of them on the blog and hope that you or someone you know might find your next ECO!

This week, we’d like for you to get to know Joey!

Joey is an American Bulldog mix who is one year old and 50 lbs of pure love. He began his year as a leftover Christmas stray at a local shelter. He does well with kids, adults and dogs and is quite affectionate. This guy is in need of a lot of exercise so walks and romps in a safely fenced yard would be right up his alley. He's young and energetic but really sweet. PAW thought he deserved a chance and we know some lucky adopter out there will agree.

He had a totally torn cruciate ligament on his left rear leg and weakness in right rear so he recently had TPLO surgery to repair them. His recovery is 6 to 8 weeks with limited movement allowed (strict cage rest) and after he'll need rehabbing.

To meet Joey, email PAW Resuce at pawdogs@yahoo.com or see him at a weekend adoption event soon.

  4. Come and Relax with the Lorax!

March has certainly been off to a chilly start in Washington, DC. We’ve been keeping warm at The Jefferson by curling up by the fire in our book room and re-reading one of our favorite classics, The Lorax, by Dr. Seuss, our featured author in our Year of the Author series. We’ve also been enjoying our Dr. Seuss cocktail in Quill. Quill pays homage to the author with a cocktail of gin, chamomile tea and Homericon, garnished with chrysanthemum pearls. The orange pearls are a nod to the main character in the story, the Lorax.

The story, first published in 1971 is themed around “going green” and spoke about the dangers of corporate greed; long before either were are hot topic. The Lorax “spoke for the trees” and warned Once-ler of the consequences of cutting down the truffula trees. As the story unfolds, we learn of what happens when Once-ler continues to expand the Thneed industry.

The Lorax has brought its fair share of controversy over the years as some people believe that the story is and remains too gloomy for children. We want to know what you think! Let us know if The Lorax is your favorite in the Dr. Seuss collection or if you prefer one of his other works.

We hope you hop, pop or stop into Quill this month and enjoy a Dr. Seuss cocktail!
